Cable Throttle Conversion

Installing a Cable Throttle on a classic car is actually a very nice upgrade. It removes the flex you get from the long accelerator rod the 6 cylinder uses. It also allows you to route the throttle cable anywhere you want for any carbureator you want to use.

There are several different methods for the 6 cylinder cars. Some people have used Lokar pedals, or late model Fairmont floor mounted pedals. I wanted a more stock look from the interior, so I unded up using a V-8 Throttle from a 1965 mustang. The pedal looks stock, and gives a nice position to attach a cable too. All you have to do is redrill 3 holes for the V-8 rod.

From there, I bought a cable throttle kit from Lokar through Summit Racing. I used a piece of Angle Aluminum to give me a direct mounting surface for the cable. I put another hard point with another piece of angle AL using the coil mounting bolts. It gives a nice direct pull from the rod.
From here it will depend on your application, you can route the cable anywhere you want.
