The MSD Digital 6 Plus is a nice upgrade for any ignition system. I purchased the Digital 6 Plus from Summit Racing for $280. There are a few difference in the Digital 6 Plus and the MSD 6A and MSD 6AL. I'll give a quick review of the differences. First and most obvious is the price. MSD 6A chims in at about $150, MSD 6AL is around $195 and MSD D6+ runs around $280. While the price difference may seem like a lot, once you break it down, it isn't that much difference. It mostly revolves around the Rev limiter. The Digital 6 plus has 2 built in rev limiters that are adjustable in 100RPM increments. It does NOT use the soft touch plug modules that the other MSD rev limiters use (like the MSD 6AL, and the soft touch rev limiters). Each pack of rev limiters (which gives you rev limiter plug is for a 1000RPM range) costs about $25. So the MSD 6Al plus one set of limiters will now run $230, and you can only limit the Revs in one 1000 RPM range. Plus, you have to swap out the plug-ins, instead of just rotating two dials to adjust the rev limiter. So, if you factor in all the plug ins, then the Digital 6+ is a good deal. On top of the built in Rev limiter, the Digital 6 Plus offers a cleaner signal, 2 staged timing retards, and more energy per spark then the other MSD 6's. |

So, overall performance? Very nice. It smoothed the idle of the car down. As you rev the engine, it seems to give a more consistant spark and the engine revs smoothly through out the RPM range to the rev limit I set at 5000 RPM. I was able to open the spark plug gap from .042" to .056". This resulted in a slight improvement in power and mileage. Mileage was also measurably improved. Increased my mileage from 25MPG to 27MPG on the highways. I tested this for 3-5 tanks before and 3-5 tanks after the upgrade. I track my mileage religously, so this is a consistant improvement in mileage. Overall, this is a very nice upgrade for any car with electronic ignition. |
